According to an April 15, 2013 American Dental Association News article, an oral surgeon in Tulsa, Okla. is under investigation by several health boards for alleged breach of infection control protocols.
About 7,000 patients were possibly exposed to a number of viruses between 2007 and 2013, according to the ADA News report. These viruses include human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
According to the report, the oral surgeon under investigation had his license suspended and was set to appear at a hearing on April 19, 2013.
Standards for infection control are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the ADA in order to keep both patients and health care professionals safe.
Hill Family Dentistry takes every possible precaution to prevent the transmission of disease and infection. Our goal is to provide a safe environment for proper oral care by maintaining these high standards set forth by the CDC and the ADA.
